Ok, heres the thing, when i turned 16 i got a 2001 1/2 mustang gt, black of course
which we got for $16,000 with only 5k miles on it. So im 18 now and my sister just turned 16 which means she gets a car. So, my parents bought her a 2005 V6 mustang which they got for $24,000. So my parents being as fair as they are have given me $8,000 to do what i want with. So, being the type of guy i am, i want to spend it all on my car, lol. Ok, so heres the thing, ive always wanted to have a supercharged car. So i can put a KB in my car, which i got estimated for $5500 install. If i did this, i would need subframe connecter, about $100, and a new clutch, about $400, so about 600 more installed. So that puts me at $6100. Then i could have the $1900 to do watever else. OR, my parents offered to put the $8,000 down for a 2003-2004 svt cobra, which i would also have to turn my 2001 in. So, they both have there pros and cons, witht he 2001, its max hp is no more than 500, so if i SCed it, that would be about all i could get unless i upgraded the internals, and it also doesnt have IRS or a 6 speed. but on the other hand i may be able to get more hp out of it. The cobra, has all the goods, just not a good Supercharger. So what would you guys do? P.S. the cobra would be black also

First of all, OMG are you lucky to have those kind of parents.
Secondly, I say go with the car you want. Don't worry about HP numbers. It's how much fun you have with the car you make your own... the mods is where the fun really is... so if modifying your GT (which in my opinion has more options available) is going to be more fun for you, then stay with it. If you have been dreaming of a Cobra, get that. No matter what, I want to offer a little big brotherly advice. I would LOVE to see you save up a bit of that money... even if it's a small fraction, take it and put it away. Put it in a savings account. You will thank yourself down the road. Am I right gang?

More HP out of the GT ???? Cobra + 18yr old = $1,000,000 a year for insurance. Probably should do the GT, but a Cobra.......it's what dreams are made of.

Put it in the bank and wait for it to gain some intrest. then you might have enough for heads, intake manifold and other stuff like that to help you put up those bigger numbers. just my opinion.

Hey there..just another semi older guy with a bit of advice and a story. When I was your age I made a nice piece of change in the stock market (to the tune of about $40k). Now, a 16 year old with this kind of money is a dangergous thing..and I am of course the epitomy of that. First I got greedy and bought a dumpload more of stock..on margin. Then I took about 10K and dumped in into my 1986 K-5 Blazer..don't get me wrong it was amazing to basically have a show truck, but looking back it wasn't really worth it. This left me with about 5K in cash (which I had to put away for cap gains tax.) The stocks went to crap, sold the truck for 5000 and bought my Lincoln Mark VII. Moral of the story, save the money. I know you want a fast car, we all do, but take that money stash it and build on it, then buy a piece of Real Estate..the earlier you can do this, the better you will be later in life. 8K will seem like nothing later on when you have a piece of propert worth 20X+ that! This is just my 2 cents (but more like 200 cents!)

MY VOTE GOES FOR THE COBRA....BUT THEY ALL MAKE GOOD POINTS, if you have your mind set on spending the $$ on the car then get the Cobra IMO since u mentioned it i take it its ur dream car just like the rest of us??......just insurance will be a total &*%$*$* thats the reason i ended up with a GT in the first place.
but saving would be great.....!!! or like some one else said invest it in properties..!! either way let us know what you do!!!!!!!

If you're not about saving the money, then I say go for the Cobra. Way more potential there. You get that KB, you're maxing your engine out and playing with fire due to the stock internals. Plus just the thought of owning a 03-04 at your age, you couldn't be more lucky. Your parents must be really awesome. Insurance is gonna be pricey though.

If you are hell bent on spending the money the best value would be the Cobra. Look at it like this. You can drop 8 grand into the GT and make as much and more power than the Cobra. But no matter what it is still a GT! It's resale will be at GT prices. SVT Cobra hold there value (espically the 03-04) and down the road it will gain because of the demand for these cars. So I say save the cash because you are young and because the way of the world today, you need to be wise with your money. Make it grow, go to school, better yourself. But if you must spend it, spend it on the Cobra. It is the wiser choice plus you will make alot of older guys with GT's jealous!!

First as a 20 year old going through a similar situation (except without the awsome parents) I'm going to ask you witch car will mean more to you later on in life. a first car alway's hold a certain centimental value, I will never get rid of my 1967 Coupe because I've had it since i was 13 and because there's that value that no money could ever match for it. But coming from a kid that has wanted a 2003/2004 Cobra since they unveilled it at the Chicago Auto Show in 02 if that is your dream car then I'd go for it.
Second, 500 horsepower is not the limit on a GT, it would take a lot of work but when it comes to making horsepower money is your limit. If you end up keeping the GT i would build your block first, straping on a Kenne Bell would be awsome but a stock GT motor can only handle 450 HP and then I don't think you would be happy because you couldn't drive the car like you want to. So my advice here would be to take the money and build you motor for the Kenne Bell, I know you would rather spend the money on the KB but building the motor first could possibly save you some major headaches later on. Good luck on your choice.........

There is a lot of good advice here. The only thing I would add is do what going to make you happy. No rush, you have a lot of time ahead of you.
